remembers, as a young boy, his father taking him to Gettysburg, PA and
getting hooked into the history of the Civil War. This hook developed
into an on-going passion over the last forty years.
is originally from Johnstown, PA and an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam
era. He has four children – two daughters, Jennifer and Sue,
and two sons, Michael and Nathan – and three granddaughters
– Tessa, Anna, and Abigail - and new addition to the family, grandson, Brendan Michael.
and his wife, Robin, were married in Sharpsburg, MD in 1998 by local
historian, Rev. John Schildt. After falling in love with the town, they decided to move to Sharpsburg three years later. In 2002, they bought a log home, circa 1783, and have been
restoring the fourteen room house ever since.
January of 2006, he spotted an ad for tour guides at the Antietam battlefield,
and decided to study and test to become qualified. It’s been
a natural fit ever since. He thoroughly enjoys meeting and talking with
new people and his wife claims he received the “gift of gab”
after kissing the Blarney Stone on their honeymoon. Bob began
contacting the local bed and breakfasts to see if any clients would
be interested in receiving a tour, and the forever passion and dream
has now become a reality.
currently works as Nursery Manager at Sunny Meadows Nursery. He
has also been a member of the Wildcat Regiment Band since 1994, and
is an Antietam Park Service volunteer.
